When Mailk released his latest work ‘Orange’, following the powerful ‘Red’, we began to notice a theme and our theory has come true with the announcement of his Spectrum LP. The 24-year-old Austin producer will release his debut project out August 21st through ARTium Recordings, and it promises to be an epic sci-fi journey in which each colour represents a different shade of emotion. Malik adds that “It’s a sort of musical take on Pixar’s Inside Out, if it were as heavily influenced by Outkast, Graduation-era Kanye West, Days Before Rodeo-era Travis Scott, Acid Rap Chance the Rapper, and Nostalgia Ultra Frank Ocean, as I was.” Now, let’s talk about ‘Orange’. In contrast to the restlessness of ‘Red’, this following track conveys the hope that one may find in the light of day. The minimalist backbeats bounce with a light energy of this newfound perspective, and yet the dropped-out bass and glitchy moments suggest that the previous anger hasn’t dissipated, it’s bubbling underneath ready to be used again.
